PR: SuSE Linux Goes to Church

The Evangelical Church of Hessen and Nassau (Germany) has
migrated nearly 200 branch offices and 5,000 users from Microsoft
Exchange Server to SuSE Linux Openexchange, according to a press
announcement from SuSE Linux.

The church is using SuSE Linux Openexchange Server 4 to upgrade
its existing infrastructure–consolidating and unifying hardware
and software and centralizing administration and backup.

SuSE Linux partnered with NorCom Information Technology to
develop a cost-effective and highly available system for the
church. According to Günther Lietz, IT Manager, Evangelical
Church in Hessen and Nassau (EKHN), today’s modern church needs an
efficient, IT infrastructure to facilitate efficient communications
between church offices, enabling it to more easily respond to
increasing parishioner needs. With SuSE Linux Openexchange Server
4, the Evangelical Church in Hessen and Nassau can now organize
this multi-layered communication securely.

“We selected this solution because it is both inexpensive and
future proof — offering us lots of options for the future,” said
Lietz. “In this way, we establish a joint communication platform
for parishes, deaconry centers, activity centers, and nursery
schools in the EKHN.”

“By partnering with Norcom, we were able to quickly supply the
church with a reliable, secure and cost effective platform on which
to build their next generation infrastructure,” said Petra
Heinrich, vice president, Partner Sales & Services, SuSE Linux.
“Moving forward, the church has the flexibility to leverage the
best technology for their needs.”

“The migration worked smoothly,” said Olaf Schmid, Account
Manager, NorCom Information Technology AG. “A number of special
software components ensures the smooth migration without any data
loss. And that is what counts.”
