“Once a member joins, ActiveNames automatically keeps track of
the user’s active e-mail address, and redirects mail from all the
specified inactive addresses on their ‘e-mail trail’ — even
addresses that they no longer have access to — to the currently
active address. The ActiveNames privacy policy prides itself on not
requiring any personal details from users, and the fact that the
content of e-mail messages do not pass through its servers at any
time.”

“…It is my observation that approximately 20 percent of
consumer e-mail addresses go bad each year,” stated Eric Arnum,
editor of EMMS (Electronic Mail Messaging Systems), “so there’s a
crying need for the intelligence and value added service of never
losing track of e-mail addresses that ActiveNames is offering to
the Internet community.”
