“Lineo, Inc., a leading developer of embedded Linux system
software, today announced they are teaming with National
Semiconductor Corp (NYSE: NSM) to co-develop Linux-based
software development kits for the Information Appliance (IA)
market. Lineo and National Semiconductor
, the leading enabler
of total systems and silicon solutions for the information
appliance market will develop reference platforms using Embedix
, Lineo’s embedded Linux software. These reference platforms will
target the set-top box markets and WebPAD, a personal access
device.”

“Time to market is the key issue for our customers in
development of an information appliance. Helping these mutual
customers accelerate their production schedules is one of the ways
both National and Lineo are enabling this growing market,” said
Michael Polacek, vice president of National’s Information Appliance
division. “National’s Geode integrated processor solutions,
combined with Lineo’s Embedix software platform is an excellent
solution for low cost, easy to use devices allowing anytime,
anywhere Internet access.”

“National Semiconductor’s initiatives in the IA market are
aggressive,” said Bryan Sparks, CEO of Lineo, Inc. “By working
together on this joint project, we provide OEMs with an integrated
solution that includes hardware and software for developing
embedded Internet appliance devices.” These devices are targeted to
begin shipping later this year.”
