“PacketPort.com, Inc. … today announced that it will be
unveiling two new Linux-based Voice-over-DSL (VoDSL) devices: an
Integrated Access Device (IAD) internet appliance for the home and
office and, a Applications Server located remotely.”

“The IAD will be controlled remotely with redundant SUN
application servers running PacketPort.com’s TeraVox. The IAD comes
in two versions, home and office. The home IAD (providing one line
of high speed Internet access and four lines of voice or Fax) can
be either licensed to DSL manufacturers or sold as a separate small
appliance connected directly to a DSL connection. The office IAD
will provide one line of high speed Internet access and up to 24
lines of voice or Fax: enough to service small to mid range
companies.”

“This new class of products will be Linux-based in order to
provide the highest degree of reliability and provide the
competitive pricing necessary to enable any phone company or
Internet Service Provider to provide advanced value added voice and
data services.
Being platform independent, Linux will enable
the VoDSL appliances to operate over a wide variety of devices,
while still retaining full Internet and telephone system
operability.”
