“Walter McCormack, vice president and general manager,
Internet division of Red Hat, Inc. (Nasdaq: RHAT), a market leader
in Linux and open source solutions, spoke today at the Strategic
Directions 2000 E-business Conference sponsored by TIBCO Software
Inc.
(Nasdaq: TIBX). McCormack spoke to more than 700 of the
world’s leading CIOs and IT visionaries about the enhanced value
proposition of open source.”

“”Linux is the number one platform for Web server operating
systems, capturing 34% of the Web server market,” said McCormack.
“The popularity of the open source Linux operating system is due to
three things — increased control, reliability and affordability
for the end user.””

“”At Red Hat we are using the Internet to fundamentally change
the way software is developed and deployed. Our goal is to build an
open-source ecosystem with Linux as the center. Key partners such
as TIBCO will be instrumental in helping us further the acceptance
of open source by adopting open source into their software
development efforts.””
