“SGI today announced the availability of the SGI 1450 server, a
new addition to the SGI 1000 server series powered by up to four
Intel Pentium III Xeon processors 700 MHz in a space saving 4U
(seven-inch) chassis. Priced from $7,766 (U.S. list), the SGI 1450
server offers a low entry price point for a four-way system,
significant expansion options and a range of reliability features
to ensure continuous uptime.”

With models running the Linux and Microsoft Windows NT
operating systems, SGI 1450 is targeted at data center customers
who want maximum four-way system performance to run demanding
business applications, implement clustering solutions or run active
intranet, Internet and e-commerce sites.
Because of its
compact size, a total of nine SGI 1450 servers with up to 36 Intel
Pentium III Xeon processors and more than 1TB of storage can be
packed into a standard rack.”

“By combining industry-standard components with SGI’s
acknowledged expertise in design, engineering and service, we have
created a highly cost-effective, multipurpose server,” said Greg
Goelz, vice president, Worldwide Channel Sales and Marketing, SGI.
“SGI 1450 addresses all of the requirements demanded by data center
customers. It delivers high performance and scalability within a
small, flexible form factor, with a choice of industry-standard
operating systems. Extensive use of redundant and hot-swappable
components ensures high availability and reliability. And
ease-of-service is achieved through built-in manageability features
and a comprehensive support package.”
