“In this post, I compare the facilities to retouch photos in
both digiKam and Aperture. Since for both packages there are plenty
of options to retouch your pictures, I decided to split the post up
into two different posts. In this post, I address where to find the
tools and some the quick and easy retouches and how the editing
works in general. In my next post, I will discuss the more advanced
options, compare the tools available in either application has and
say a bit on how they behave. As usual, I start with Aperture and
then compare to how digiKam works.

“Aperture
Making adjustments to your photos has been made very easy using
Aperture. As shown in the screen shots below, you simply open the
Adjustments tab and there you will find controls to make
adjustments to your photograph. If you open the adjustments tab the
first time, you see a set of adjustments and two menus at the top:
presets and adjustments. By opening the adjustment menu, you can
change the set of adjustments you see and the presets menu gives
access to several predefined presets. A preset is a set of
adjustments to obtain a particular result, for example, there are
presets to convert to black and white, sepia, enhance the contrast
and setting the white balance. In Aperture you can define your own
presets and easily apply them to multiple photos!”
