Reuters: Opera Teams with Linux for TV Set-Top Boxes

“Opera Software ASA, a tiny Norwegian maker of software to rival
Microsoft’s Internet browser, aims to break in on the market for
digital television program controls by persuading TV equipment
makers to use its Linux-based software.

“Opera hopes to get manufacturers of set-top boxes — the
devices that enable viewers to watch and navigate digital
television programs or interactive TV such as pay-per-view movies
or games — to use its software.

“Opera says it can help set-top box makers squeeze out costs by
combining its Internet browser with Linux, the fast-growing and
freely available computer operating system that is a rival to
Microsoft’s dominant Windows system…”
