[ Thanks for this link to Chris Chabot, who says this is
the first Zend Cache review that’s appeared — according to Chris:
“The ZendCache, and other products released by Zend.com today, will
make a very positive impact on PHP’s future, alowing it to be
truely usable in enterprise level envirioments.” ]

“The Actual code for the Reviewboard.com site is 600Kb of
pure PHP, using every trick that PHP has to offer.
From
advanced text parsing and searching, HTML handling, dynamic page
generation, caching library & module loaders, to dynamic
environment generation. A perfect envirioment we thought, to
put the soon-to-be-released ZendCache thru its paces, and see what
benefits ZendCache will bring to a real life situation.”

“Zend is a commercial company that provides technology backing
to PHP based solutions. One way of achieving this, is by developing
addon-products for the PHP environment, one of which is the
ZendCache solution. Other products in development by Zend are
ZendOptimizer and ZendEncoder.”

“To gauge the performance of ZendCache we used it in several
types of programs. Everything ranging from small programs that sent
‘hello world’ to the client, to huge programs like
Reviewboard.com’s CMS. The programs used for benchmarking are
Apachebench (included in the standard apache source package), and
httperf, which is a popular web server benchmarking tool since it
can generate several types of server workloads to similutate real
life conditions as closely as posible (see its url for more info).
The amount of clients configured for testing is set to 35, for
maximum load without running into swapfile’s.”
