“Rippleweb: Thanks for agreeing to the
interview, Eugenia. Although you provide some information on the
OSNews site, and on your own site, could you please describe your
educational, professional, and technical background, including how
you got interested in computers and the GUI?“Eugenia Loli-Queru: I’ve studied on a Greek
college for two years. I studied ‘Programmer and Computer
Analysis.’ Basically, I learned there all the hot languages of…
1993: Turbo C, Turbo Pascal and… DBase IV/Clipper, among other
things. Needless to say that with the internet booming 3 years
later I had to re-learn a few things on my own or through my
jobs.“My first computer-related job was as a tester/researcher on an
OS dev company. In 1996 I moved to UK where I started studying the
new kids on the block: Perl, HTML, ASP, Java, SQL Server, IIS, etc.
I worked for 5 years as a web master/developer on three web design
companies in UK (I had to move houses to another part of UK, so
subsequently I moved jobs too). It was on my third job during that
time that I got into UI design more than ever before. The company I
was working for was developing an ‘intelligent document index and
searching product’ (as complex of a product as it sounds). They
needed a better UI, and so I dived in to learn more about usability
and UI design, in addition to my work as an ASP and Java developer
on the same product…”
