SCO Offers Quick Response to LT Question

Earlier today, I contacted Blake Stowell, Director of Public
Relations of The SCO Group about questions regarding the discovery
of alleged UnixWare code in the Linux kernel.

I wanted to give SCO an opportunity to respond to my questions
in the Editor’s Note published this morning before the article was
posted. Unfortunately, due to deadline concerns, I was unable to
speak with Stowell until after the opinion piece ran.

After speaking with him on the phone, outlying my concerns, and
pointing him to the editorial, Stowell did release a brief
statement regarding their allegation of discovering UnixWare code
in the Linux kernel.

“SCO did not begin investigating whether its software code had
been misappropriated until the last couple of years,” Stowell
wrote. “It was first discovered last year, so nothing could have
been done about it previously. SCO and Caldera did not officially
merge until May of 2001, so neither company had investigated this
possibility until then.”
