“Slowly but surely Linux is becoming available for more and more
applications and solutions on which businesses depend. F-Secure
recently announced its anti-virus for firewalls solution is now
available for Linux. F-Secure’s anti-virus for firewalls works in
concert with Check Point Software’s Firewall-1 product, which is
also available on Linux. So essentially, a user could use a Linux
box to handle the anti-virus solution or integrate it with a Linux
machine providing the gateway. The company is headquartered in
Espoo, Finland, with North American headquarters in San Jose,
Calif. Pirkka Palomaki, F-Secure’s vice president of marketing,
talks about the F-Secure’s anti-virus solution for firewalls
running on Linux in this question and answer interview….”
“What are the benefits of your firewall product and your
approach to it?
“Palomaki:
It’s an easy gateway to install, your first front of defense. It
lets nothing bad in or out. Essentially, scanning at the gateway
minimizes the greatest point of risk. Most viruses come in from the
Internet. Granted, there are risks of infection from file servers
or from the desktop. We address that as well by monitoring for any
outgoing viruses or malicious code. At the very least, sending out
such things is embarrassing but it can also hurt a company’s
credibility.”
