Seattle Times: Area’s Linux Lovers Laud Computing ‘Democracy’

“Linux is alive in Western Washington, demonstrated at
Saturday’s LinuxFest Northwest. About a thousand people traveled to
the Bellingham Technical College to show off products, talk
technology and hear an address by Jon ‘Maddog'” Hall.

“To the uninitiated, the contentious nickname doesn’t seem to
fit the apparently taciturn senior citizen of the Linux
movement.

“‘I’m 52 years old,’ Hall said. ‘When I was in my 30s I didn’t
always have control over my temper. I’m not very happy about that
now. But if someone calls out for ‘Jon’ in a crowd, 20 people turn
their heads. If they call out for ‘Maddog’ I know it’s for me,
although some of the people in the room may be expecting to see
someone with a spiked collar.’

user and a Linux user is simply ‘whether you think it’s better to
