“We have now officially set up a SEUL wiki. The content
isn’t quite structured yet, but it’s begun. We hope to use a
portion of the SEUL/edu section of the wiki to provide a place
where educational software can be listed, indexed by users, and
reviewed by people who are using it for educational purposes.
We’re still loading this section of the wiki with listings, so if
you stop by keep coming back regularly to see what we’ve
added.”
“Shadow netWorkspace (SNS) has released Candidate 1 for Release
1 (SNS C1R1). It is the first candidate for a 1.0 release of SNS.
We talked to some people involved with SNS at LWE, and agreed to
provide a download mirror for their software. When that mirror is
available we’ll announce it here.”
“L Prevett asked if anyone knew of any resources to help teach
9th and 10th graders Perl programming. He had already directed the
teacher who asked him that question to CPAN, and was looking for
any other places. Chris Hobbs recommended InformIT for their
on-line copy of “Sams Teach Yourself Perl 5 in 21 Days, Second
Edition.” Having said that, he recommended using something other
than Perl, like Python, Java, or Pascal as in introduction to
programming. After a short discussion it seemed that Python was the
favorite introductory programming language, followed by Logo.”
