“The O’Reilly Network recently published an article, ‘Python
Escapes Classroom,’ about Jeff Elkner’s work in updating the
venerable teaching program Karel the Robot to work with Python. The
most interesting point made in the article is that Jeff seems to
have lost control over the project as his students have taken it
over and are going beyond what he intended.

“On October 31 we received this email message from Kyle Johnston
with SchoolNet Namibia. He was alerting us to an open letter that
Joris Komen had just written to Microsoft’s regional manager for
South and East Africa. The letter is an interesting view into
Microsoft’s practices in regards to making donations to various
countries around the world…”
