“Leon Brooks kept us updated on the educationaLinux miniconf
being held at LCA2003 in Perth Australia. Here’s an excerpt from
his conference wrapup:

“The educationaLinux miniconf was excellent; Day One started out
with Kathryn Moyle from the South Australian government, included
many highly informative presentations through the day, and finished
on the unforgettable Randy Appleton telling us about NMU’s use of
Linux, with interesting side-tales such as the day the US Army’s
Military Police came knocking, ready to arrest one of NMU’s
professors. Day two emphasised LTSP and other network booting
options, and wound up with an excellent Round Table, ending with
each participant telling us what they would do with Linux Australia
to further the educational cause here. One result of this miniconf
was the formation of the ALLIES list, working to co-ordinate
Linux-oriented lobbying efforts in Australia’s education sector.
There were 42 participants in the educationaLinux stream.

“Mike Eschman’s series of informational postings with lesson
plans for math and science, dealing with bodies in the solar system
has progressed to Venus…

“Infomatics posted this article about Sun’s efforts to convince
UK schools to switch to StarOffice. Sun hopes to get StarOffice
adoption up to perhaps 20% within eighteen months…”
