“One of the best things about KIllustrator it is that it
installs seamlessly, and even automatically creates shortcuts on
the start-up menu. It also installs automatically for all users
when you run the installation as root, and it creates shortcuts for
them too. I guess being restricted to KDE has some benefits, this
being one of the nicer ones.”
“Once the program is running, it’s a fun ride, with a very
shallow learning curve, but that’s not because there’s nothing to
it. Modeled in the tradition of Adobe Illustrator and Corel Draw,
KIllustrator uses a similar intuitive approach, choosing the
simpler of the two when there’s a choice between Adobe’s working
environment, and Corel’s. Gotta hand it to these guys, they know a
good thing when they see it in another program. If you have had
even a little practice with Corel Draw, you’ll find KIllustrator is
easy to use. Some of the palettes could easily mistaken for Corel
Draw or Adobe Illustrator features.”
“There’s no doubt that there will be good-hearted volunteers
working deep into the night to expand the capabilities of
KIllustrator, encouraged by the lack of vector alternatives for
Linux. For now, however, the program has a way to go before
being a complimentary vector program to the highly developed raster
GIMP. On the other hand, it’s a handy addition to the K Desktop
Environment, and it may eventually become a standard KDE
application. Three and a half stars (out of five).”
