Evan: LPI is an international, non-profit body
formed to develop a distribution-neutral, vendor-independent
program of Linux certification. LPI was incorporated in Canada in
early 1999, having been formed out of a grassroots movement of
people who foresaw the need for a respected certification program
for Linux. The organization now has a board of Directors, staff and
participants around the world.”

Evan: True vendor-neutrality, meaning that
LPI does not play favorites or select ‘official’ training programs
linked to its certification. The intention is to allow the
certification (which is more of a standards-creation function than
anything else) to be a community effort while encouraging the Linux
