percent on first day.”

“Linux, the alternative network operating system in search of
mainstream acceptance, got self-esteem in spades Wednesday when
Wall Street ignored the generally dour stock market climate to
embrace the initial public offering from Linux developer Red Hat
Inc.”

“Shares of Red Hat, priced at $14 out of the gate, climbed more
than 270 percent to close at $52. Six million shares were put up
for sale, which raised approximately $3.5 billlion for the Durham,
N.C.-based company.”
