“As the industry storage wars continue to rage, Compaq today
stepped into two new storage markets, extending its storage area
network (SAN) support to lower-end departmental/workgroup
implementations while also introducing the company’s first-ever
network-attached storage (NAS) device.
“In the future, Compaq will add support for clustering and
Novell’s NFS (NetWare File System), notes Roger A. Javens, design
program manager in Compaq’s Storage Product Division.”
“According to Javens, the new RA4100 is the first SAN system
from Compaq to support multihost clusters, the first to use a
switch rather than a hub, and also the first to support Linux.
Other OS supported by the RA4100 SAN include Windows 2000, Windows
NT Server, NetWare and SCO Unix. Compaq is manufacturing the switch
from Gadzoox.”
