“Okay, I’ve had it with Amarok 2.x. I was patient; I
gave them plenty of time to get the kinks worked out. But Amarok
2.4 (which I’ll be reviewing shortly) was the final straw, so I
decided to check out Clementine, which is a fork of the wonderful
old Amarok 1.4.“The UI looks a hell of a lot like Amarok 1.x, doesn’t it? Like
Amarok, this is a playlist-based music player, so plenty of room is
made over on the right for the playlist. To the left of that is a
general-purpose info pane that’ll display different types of
information depending on what you select from the sidebar over to
the extreme left. It’s great to have the old Amarok sidebar back
again; one of my complaints about the Amarok 2.x series was that it
took too many clicks to access your stuff. Also like Amarok,
Clementine closes to the system tray and runs in the background.
It’s system tray icon is a snazzy-looking orange slice, which
starts out each track fully orange and slowly goes gray as the
track plays, giving the user a visual approximation of how much of
the track is left. Cool!”
