It’s been a while since last having any major news to report on OpenIndiana, the OpenSolaris/Illumos-derived operating system, but they are out today with new test ISOs that incorporate the MATE desktop.
OpenSolaris/OpenIndiana had long been using the GNOME 2.x desktop and now OpenIndiana is preparing for possibly migrating to the MATE Desktop Environment as the fork of GNOME 2. For now the MATE packages are offered alongside GNOME.
