South China Morning Post: Red Hat prepares Chinese Linux to grab OS lead

“Red Hat, the US-based distributor of the free Linux operating
system, says it will have launched an ambitious expansion programme
in greater China by the time rival Microsoft begins commercial
release of its Windows 2000 OS early next year.”

“Red Hat’s Asia-Pacific vice-president and general manager, Mark
White, said it would focus on the mainland.”

A simplified Chinese version of Linux would be released and
Chinese open-source development would be encouraged.
