Speaking UNIX: The new and improved Vim editor

“Editing a compressed file: To conserve space on a system,
administrators often compress log files or other large files. It
never fails: A file is compressed, and then someone asks you, “Hey,
can you take a look at this log from two months ago?” Rather than
decompressing the file, and then editing it with vi, Vim can edit
the compressed file. Vim can handle editing files compressed with
bzip2, gzip, and zip.”
