SRO: A Kinder, Gentler Gates To Debut At Comdex?

“Should we expect to see a humbler Bill Gates when he takes the
floor Sunday night at the kickoff Comdex Fall keynote?…”

“As Gates on Sunday night outlines his vision for Windows on
every desktop and in every device, I’m not looking for him to
acknowledge selflessly the contributions of Microsoft’s
predecessors and/or adversaries to Microsoft’s current products and
strategies….”

I’d also be shocked if Gates takes a swipe at Linux. The
temptation for Gates to dismiss the impact of the rowdy upstart OS
is strong, especially since the godfather of Linux, Linus Torvalds,
is slated to keynote Comdex on Monday night.
At Spring Comdex,
Torvalds got a lot more attention from press and attendees than did
Gates. But Microsoft has continued to insist that Linux is a
formidable competitor that’s poised to push Windows from the top of
the hill at any moment.”
