Putting the astronomical Linux stock prices aside,
technically speaking Linux is primed to do even better in 2000 than
in 1999.

“Why? Because in February, the next edition of Linux, 2.4, is
due to come out from the powerhouse Linux distributors. With 2.4,
many of the problems that have hobbled Linux as an enterprise
server, such as its poor SMP support, will have been
solved….”

“OK, so you can’t sell it per se. But, this new way of
programming clearly works and it works well. In the past people
have ignored open-source programs, until its rise, like the Samba
file server or the Apache Web server, made it impossible to ignore.
You simply can’t afford to wait and see with open-source programs
anymore.”
