“Thanks for inviting me to visit with you today. In two decades
of watching the computer industry, I’ve discovered that there are
times when experience can actually be a hindrance, at least in
trying to understand why the ‘conventional wisdom’ seems to be so
at odds with what you are actually seeing take place.

“This is one of those times and that’s the reason I’d like to
spend a few minutes talking about ‘Why the Conventional Linux
Wisdom is Wrong.’ I don’t mean to discount the importance of Linux.
Well, maybe I do, but only a bit. I believe Linux will become an
important operating system and it has great value for many
businesses.

“Linux is a good thing, but it isn’t all things to all people.
And companies that are making more than a tactical investment
should be very careful to invest with their eyes wide open…”
