TechWeb: Linux balancing act; Civil code laws written in stone

To The Editor: I use Linux both at home and at work. I purchase
third-party apps to run on it, much as I would for a Microsoft
operating system. I just enjoy the stability and the choice of look
and feel for my desktop.

I’ve heard many a discussion on how Linux will not succeed until
the community develops a single common desktop. My feeling is that
freedom of choice is what makes Linux attractive.
