The “Creating Digital Dividends” conference, in progress

protest demonstration outside the exhibition hall.”

“Open Source is the real solution to the digital divide,”
said Tim Hanson, a government-employed accountant who took a day
off to lead the demonstration.
“People need something they can
easily adapt to their own language, and they don’t want to give
money to American companies.”

“Only about six or seven protesters turned out to hold up signs
in the rain. Many of them opened the door for attendees as they
entered the hall. … Demonstrators weren’t expected to continue
through the week, as they said they had to return to their day
jobs.”
