“We feel sympathy for Microsoft,” said Bob Young, the CEO of
Durham, N.C.-based Red Hat, which went public in June and now has a
market capitalization of over $7 billion. “Because of our
visibility, the volume of support requests are going up.”

“Red Hat has literally made millions of dollars on free
software, applying services to the delivery of the Linux computer
OS and other free open source developed software.

Tuesday night, Young put on a bright red baseball cap and
addressed the monthly meeting of the New York City Linux users
group he helped found five years ago when he was a salesman for a
Canadian computer company.
