“The South African Cabinet yesterday approved the Government OSS
strategy. The announcement was made by Minister of Public Services
and Administration Geraldine Fraser-Moleketi shortly before
delivering her budget vote speech to Parliament. In her speech
Fraser-Moleketi said Government is ‘looking forward’ the many
benefits of open source software.“During her budget vote speech, Fraser-Moleketi said ‘South
Africa is proud to be amongst the countries that have adopted Open
Source Software (OSS) policies. The improved returns on investment
associated with the elimination of licensing are exciting and we
look forward to ending maintenance agreements that lock government
into expensive long-term contracts…'”
