“When we added RPM support to APT for Conectiva Linux, a few
years ago, we found it many times slower than APT in Debian under
similar circumstances. It is clear for us now that this is caused
mainly by the Berkeley database backend used in RPM, the
non-uniform handling of file dependencies and the large number of
hidden dependencies automatically added by RPM.
