The Age: Group Urges Aust Governments to Adopt Open Standards

“Open Source Victoria has urged the Australian Federal and State
governments to mandate the use of open, documented and
inter-operable file formats and data communication protocols,
rather than those provided by specific products or suppliers.

“OSV, an industry cluster focused on Free and Open Source
Software, said this was the most appropriate manner in which to
encourage competition and promote interoperability in the domestic
IT industry.

“‘Recently some governments, both within Australia and abroad,
have been looking at legislation that promotes the use of open

500 German government agencies had adopted Open Source Software
