The Linux Consultants’ Support and Resource Center, Linux Today,
VARBusiness and Macmillan Publishing Company have completed judging
the papers submitted to the Awards Contest. Criteria for winning
entries included 1) Creativity; 2) Ability to replicate the
solutions; and 3) Practical applicability to business, education or
other professional endeavor. Five papers met the criteria for the
competition.

The sponsors organized the contest to further the adoption of
Linux in Business. Each of the winning papers demonstrated
ingenuity which surprised us all. Three papers took Grand Prizes
and two took First Prizes. The five papers will be reviewed by the
editorial staff of each sponsor and published according to the best
fit.

The Grand Prize for Best Business Case Study goes to Kevin
Erickson of the US for his paper on creating an Enterprise E-mail
System. His article demonstrated excellence in all three
categories. Lars Dybdahl of Denmark took first place for his short
but excellent piece on creating an Enterprise back-up system for
one of the largest real estate management firms in Europe.

The Grand Prize for Best Consultants award wound up in a tie
between Leif Kuse of Germany for his outstanding article on
building a SGML publishing environment and document management
system and Fred Mobach of the Netherlands for his Firewall Solution
using DMZ. Fred qualified for his award by cleverly entering the
contest before accepting his role of Director, Bynari Internal
Europe. Ron Colcemian of the US took first place for an outstanding
article on using Linux for Diskless Workstation connectivity to IBM
mainframes using Linux. His team provided an outstanding service to
their client. His article also contained an element of verve often
missing from technical articles.

Congratulations to the winners. We appreciate your hard work and
willingness to share your solutions with the community.

Respectfully submitted
