“Dell Computer last week became the latest computer-maker to
support Linux, a free operating system that is beginning to compete
seriously with Unix and Microsoft’s Windows NT.”

“Dell had taken an equity stake in Red Hat, a leading
distributor of Linux software. Dell was also offering to
pre-install Linux on some of its servers and workstations, and
would soon offer it on desktop PCs.”

“Dell last week said it had signed up a new corporate customer
to buy 1250 desktop PCs running Linux.”
