“The Beijing city government will increase its use of the open
source Linux operating system (OS) in preparation for several major
IT contracts in the second half of 2003, a government official
said.

“The official at the Beijing Informatisation Office, who asked
not to be named, would not provide detailed information on how many
departments or users would be affected by the expanded use of
Linux.

“But she said Beijing had decided to make greater use of the
open source software (OSS) in the future…”
