“I am a self admitted PERL bigot. I use PERL all the time for
tasks both small and medium (but not usually for large tasks), I
love the language and the extreme flexibility and power it gives
the programmer. I will not go so far as to say I am any good at
PERL or programming in general. I have said it before and I will
say it again, I probably write the worlds worst PERL code, but I
still love the language. I have quite a few texts on PERL,
including the complete PERL library from O’Reilly press. It seems
every-time I pick up a book on PERL I learn something new, PERL to
me is a lot like assembly language in that you never REALLY learn
it, you just keep learning more.”
“Beginning Perl is, of course, aimed at teaching Perl to someone
who has never been exposed to it. If you look above at the table of
contents you will see nothing real special, about what you would
expect from a beginning level programming text. All the requisite
items are there, variables, loops, subroutines, working with files,
etc. However, never judge a book by its cover, or even its
table of contents. The author does a great job of explaining and
presenting the material in each chapter, and even makes it
interesting to read.“
