I do not believe I have ever met an O’Reilly book I did not
like, and this is one of the best! Although the book comes with a
copy of Debian GNU/Linux and is meant for users of Debian it is an
excellent book for anyone interested in Linux.

“The book begins with an excellent overview of who should and
should not run Linux and why. Chapters two and three give an great
overview of installing Debian GNU/Linux. If you have never
installed Debian before I recommend that you read at least these
two chapters before attempting to install. Debian does not have a
graphical install interface like many other distributions, however
the console based install is very good but you should read about it
first.”

“The rest of the book is the real strong point of the book. A
very good overview of much of Linux is given in the remaining
chapters. Anyone new to Linux can benefit from the rest of the
book, even if you do not plan to install Debian. I convinced my
girlfriend to install and run Linux on the computer I built for her
and she has been searching for a book that gives good overviews on
Linux commands, I will be buying a copy of this book for her.”
