“The University of Michigan has entered a deal with
Microsoft Corporation to sell Microsoft products to students.
Through this contract, the University is paying an undisclosed
amount to Microsoft for the contract. This “Custom Enterprise
Agreement” allows students to purchase Microsoft products at a
discounted price on their student accounts.”
“So what’s wrong with this picture?”
“Well, a few things. First off, the money to pay for this
contract is coming out of money that students are paying to go into
their education, not into the hands of a company that has been
determined to be practicing monopolistic business practices.
Microsoft has entered this agreement because it will allow them to
sell their products to students kept in an information vacuum.”
