UnixReview offers a preview of what’s coming up at Usenix this
year, including the Freenix track, which will include sessions on
MAC security, scripting, user space, user environment, kernel,
graphics, network security, resource management, a paper on
“Building an Open-Source Solaris-Compatible Thread Library”, and a
paper on a Unix mailer that detects malicious Windows
executables.

“Most high-tech rendezvous are trade shows; some are
arcane academic affairs; others are vendor-sponsored living white
papers that that take you on a tightly-supervised journey through
one side of the story. But the Usenix conference seems to hold all
these forces in balance. Both the content and the guest list
reflect the full diversity and excitement of the Unix world. The
best minds of Unix are in evidence–professors and programmers,
students, designers, consultants, and lots of everyday sys admins
from all over the world. You?ll find a strong academic influence at
Usenix, but also an equally strong presence from researchers at
large corporate labs. More recently, Linux vendors and other open
source groups have added their energies to the mix. The result is a
remarkably representative slurry of ideas, observations, and
information that provide an illuminating context for what is
happening now in the world of computing. If you’re a Unix
professional and you only go to one conference this year, it ought
to be a Usenix conference. (Usenix offers several other conferences
in addition to the technical conference, including the Usenix
Security Symposium, the Linux Showcase, and the popular Large
Installation System Administration [LISA] conference.) See the
UnixReview Shows page or the Usenix Web site (www.usenix.org) for
more on upcoming events. “
