“Amendments softening open source preference legislation in
South Australia are under discussion as the Australian UNIX and
Open Systems User Group today joined the chorus of opposition to
the proposal.“Australian Democrat Ian Gilfillan, who put forward the Bill, is
discussing amendments with ‘the open source community’ including
corporate and academic users, according to a spokesman.“Under the amendments, where open source isn’t preferred
credence should be given to software that supports open standards
and also software which is available from, or can be maintained, by
multiple vendors…”
