program and a recent upgrade to its flagship Raven SSL Web security
product, the company does have one consistent message for ApacheCon
attendees: Proprietary software tools mixed with open source
platforms are the way to go in today’s marketplace.”

“We call it our hybrid business model,” says Jack. “We
absolutely think that this is the business paradigm for the future
around open source and we are the pioneers of it.”

“In other words, just because the company is no longer bound by
patent issues related to RSA — the public key encryption algorithm
whose patent expired in September — don’t expect to see a 100
percent open source version of Raven SSL on the market anytime
soon.”
