I am one of the owners of US Net. I am also the person who sent
Innovative Logic Corporation notice that we would not renew their
contract and am the one who told the technician to disconnect the
service. US Net regrets that Linux.org is off the air. We run a
Free BSD shop here & support free OS, especially varieties of
Unix. We truly regret that the Linux community has lost a valuable
resource; however, we gave Innovative Logic Corporation plenty of
notice to move to a new provider.
US Net and Innovative Logic had extremely diverse
interpretations of what obligations US Net had under our contract
from the very early months of our business relationship. US Net’s
management team made the decision to fulfill our contract
obligations, but not to enter into any additional business
relationships that would involve the McLagans. We fulfilled our
obligations of providing 1 year of service.
On August 5, 1998 (yes, it was erroneously posted as September 5
on CNet) I sent notification that October 24, 1998 would be the
last day of service. I have the Fed Ex receipt and tracking number
which shows receipt. I reiterated our intentions to Mrs. McLagan on
9/29. She spoke to our CEO in our office on October 7 and he, in
front of witnesses, told her the same thing. On October 23, I sent
Mr. McLagan a courtesy e-mail reiterating again, that service would
be terminated on October 24. We gave them the benefit of the doubt
and did not terminate service until the afternoon of October
26.
I have worked for 5 years building a company built on solid
values, including the need for superior customer support. Mr.
McLagan has slandered that reputation to cover his own
shortcomings.
