“Open source software is of increasing use in embedded systems.
The GNU General Public License (GPL) version 2 is one of the most
popular licenses for free and open source software, including the
Linux kernel. On June 29, 2007, version 3 of the GPL was published,
clarifying some aspects of the v2 license, and adding clauses to
deal with consumer products, web applications, and patents.
