“Red Hat Software, the largest commercial vendor of the Linux
operating system, has attracted further investment from industry
heavyweights, this time Compaq, IBM, Novell and Oracle.”

“The financial terms of the deal were not disclosed, however,
and although privately held Red Hat, which was founded in 1994,
does not generally provide financial information, most analysts
believe it is not yet in profit.”

“But according to a Red Hat spokesperson, attracting fresh
capital was not the main reason for seeking the new investments. It
was, rather, looking for strategic relationships with vendors in
the areas of directory services, databases and Intel based
systems.”
