Welcome to Open Source/Open Science. October 2nd has finally
rolled around which is the day of the big event at Brookhaven
National Laboratory.
Over 200 people are registered to see the
talks on Open Source and its use in science as well as to take the
tours of the lab facilities where open source software is put to
use. If you cannot make it, we invite you to visit our web site at
http://openscience.bnl.gov
where you will be able to find the speaker list, conference
schedule and a whole lot of other goodies you may be missing out
on. If you took part in our mbone broadcast tests,
you should be able to view the conference from the comfort of you
PC at home. If you are a “virtual” participate, we encourage your
questions by e-mailing them to osos@openscience.bnl.gov or
by using the #osos group at the irc bot of irc.openprojects.net.
(i.e. use xchat or irc and login to irc.openprojects.net and /join
#osos). We will make a point of trying to get your question in. If
you like, send your questions ahead of time on the topics the
speakers will be discussing. Please let us know if you want to keep
your name and location anonymous, otherwise we will use your first
name and ending of your ip address (.fr, .dk, .cn etc.) when
reading your question to the speaker.

I want to thank all of you who have participated either by
trying out our mbone broadcast and all the encouragement we have
gotten from all of you “Out There” on the Internet. We hope you do
send us e-mails or join the irc #osos group at irc.openprojects.net
so that this conference can truly be an Internet one.
