“This is where technologies like Flash, HTML5 and ChromeOS and
GeckoOS, and to a lesser extent the variety of tablets that are
available today, are starting to level the playing field. As
developers reinvent the applications everyday users rely on using
the web as a platform, the barrier between users and a Linux
desktop begin to fall.

“I mean, what is the difference to most people between launching
Google Docs or Zoho Sheet on Windows and Gnome/Unity/KDE? Is anyone
going to notice that they aren’t running Windows while chatting to
their friends on Facebook using Firefox on Linux? Once you learn
which button to press to open your favorite web service, there is
really no difference at all.

“At this point Linux on the desktop begins to add value to
peoples every day computing experience though the rich ecosystem of
free, high end applications such as LibreOffice, Gimp, Inkscape and
more.”
