“Just as the euphoria surrounding Linux stocks appears to be
dimming a bit, Caldera Systems is hoping to reignite the magic with
an IPO set for this week.”

“The software developer, until now best known for its parent
company’s high-profile lawsuit against Microsoft, is hoping to
raise about $40 million through its IPO.”

“As Caldera prepares to go public, its financial condition isn’t
much different from that of other tech companies launching new
stock offerings. In its five-year operating history, the company
has had no profits and has racked up about $35 million in losses.
Its revenue is less than a fourth of Red Hat’s.”
