WIRED: Microsoft: A Little More ‘Open’ (LinuxWorld Preview)

“Miller said Microsoft plans to continue to learn from
open source but believes Microsoft’s “alternative philosophy” of
Shared Source will remain in place.

Despite those philosophical differences and an anticipated
avalanche of “evil empire” verbal abuse, Miller said he and his
team are looking forward to attending LinuxWorld this week.
Microsoft sends some employees to every open source event, Miller
said, and a dozen or so plan to attend LinuxWorld Tuesday through
Friday at the Jacob Javits Convention Center in New York.

“Our show badges identify us as Microsoft employees, so of
course people always take some pokes at us,” said one Microsoft
employee who plans to be present at the show. “But we’re used to
it, and at least at Linux events the ragging is usually pretty
good-natured. It’s MacWorld that’s really rough.”
