“I wonder whether we really need Linux-only trade shows anymore.
I can certainly see the merit of Linux conference streams, as well
as pure Linux technical conferences such as the ones being held
this week in Ottawa and later this year in Atlanta. But I wonder if
it really helps the advancement of Linux to keep it
segregated.”
“As Linux makes its way into the computing mainstream, its
companies are competing not only with other Linux companies but
with the marketplace at large. Most corporate computer users are
looking for solutions, not raw technologies. To them Linux (or
Unix, Windows, or whatever) is a means to an end, not the end in
itself. Linux-related companies must be prepared to compete
side-by-side with the whole computing marketplace, or risk not
being taken seriously.”

be in the coming months. Recent experiences with Linux-only shows
in Montreal and Kansas City have been disappointing, indicating
that this particular gold rush is definitely over.“
